About

I created this website to showcase digital amateur TV technology and operations, particularly how we use it in Boulder County, Colorado for amateur radio emergency services / auxiliary communications.

I am part of an active ham group in and around Boulder experimenting with digital TV based on the European DVB-T standard. We selected DVB-T because it works better at low power levels (our amplifiers typically generate 10 watts or less RF output and may run on battery power).

BCARES has begun using DVB-T in support of the University of Colorado police department at home football games and other special events. We occasionally support other agencies including the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Denver International Airport.

I will post material related to ham radio in general, but mostly on digital television technology, practical ham TV equipment, and ARES TV operations as well as the results of experiments we run in our area.
